The Ratio Founding Story
It all started when I was just 23 years old, launching Matt Bernson, a footwear and lifestyle brand. What began as a small project grew into a 15-year journey full of growth, learning, and invaluable experience. Along the way, I had the privilege of working with some of the largest brands and fashion corporations in the world—luxury houses and mass-market players alike. It was through these experiences that I realized something: fashion could be so much more than it was. There were so many things that could be done better. From how customers were offered products, to the lack of personalization and involvement in the process, to the need for sustainability and mindful consumption—I knew there was room for a change.
I saw the way the industry treated luxury—an exclusive, often wasteful concept that didn't align with the values I had come to appreciate. I realized there was an opportunity to create something entirely different: a brand that was based on craftsmanship, on-demand production, and true luxury that was personal, responsible, and meaningful.
After years of honing my skills and soaking in what the fashion world could teach me, I set out to create something new—a vision for the future of fashion. A future where you, the customer, could be more than just a buyer. You could be part of the creative process. You could co-create your pieces with us. You could see luxury through a new lens—one that was built on the ideals of sustainability, individuality, and craftsmanship.
That’s where my partner comes in. An amazing Creative Director (anonymous) with over 20 years of experience at some of the most iconic brands in the industry, we share a vision. Together, we're creating a brand that's driven by a desire to do things differently. To communicate brand ideals and design principles in a way that makes customers feel more connected, more invested. We believe that fashion doesn’t have to just be about style—it’s about making a statement. A statement of purpose.
